Your files go to private storage. Rand's AI (through AI model providers that do not train on them) and the Rand reviewer read them.

What we check

  • Whether each core activity states a real technical or scientific uncertainty, not a commercial or schedule risk.
  • Whether a competent professional could have known the answer from existing knowledge, and what was searched.
  • Whether the hypothesis is specific and could be proven wrong.
  • Whether the experiment, evaluation and conclusions describe systematic work rather than routine development.
  • Excluded activities, and supporting activities that need a dominant purpose.
  • How records, R&D hours and the preparer's fee basis would hold up in a review.

For what AusIndustry looks for in each field, see what the registration form asks, or check a draft field with the registration field checker.

Frequently asked questions

What does the review look at?
Each registered core activity is read against the Division 355 tests: a technical or scientific uncertainty a competent professional could not resolve in advance, a testable hypothesis, a systematic experiment, an evaluation of the results and new knowledge as the purpose. Each supporting activity is checked for its direct link to a core activity and, where needed, its dominant purpose. Your answers about records, hours and fees add claim-level findings.
Who reads my documents?
Rand's AI reads them first and gives you an initial summary within a few minutes. A Rand reviewer then checks and edits every finding before your full report is sent. Your files are kept in private storage, are never used to train AI models, and are deleted 90 days after you submit.
Which document should I upload?
The registration as submitted to AusIndustry, ideally the PDF you can download from the R&D Tax Incentive portal. A Word draft of the registration answers, or the R&D report your adviser prepared, also works, though the review is most specific when it can read the actual registration text.
Does this change or amend my past claim?
No. The review is information for you. Rand does not lodge or amend tax returns. If the report raises something about a past year, talk it through with your tax adviser or accountant, who looks after your company tax return.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no charge and no obligation. If you would like help with your next registration, the report explains how Rand works, and you can book a call.
How long does it take?
The initial summary appears on screen within a few minutes. The reviewed report usually arrives by email within two business days.

General information only, not tax, legal or financial advice. The review reads the registration text you provide, not your underlying records, so it cannot confirm a claim's eligibility. Rand is not a tax agent and does not lodge or amend tax returns.
